With the bowl on the floor, a dog eats with its neck bent and its weight on the front legs. Raising it keeps the head and neck in a more natural position.
More comfortable for older or arthritic dogs
Dogs with pain in the neck, shoulders or front legs struggle to lower their head: with the bowl higher up they eat without effort.
Helpful in some medical cases
For megaesophagus, vets often recommend eating in a raised position so food goes down by gravity.

Large, deep-chested dogs
